He refuses. Ben collapses while teaching class, suffering a near fatal reaction to his new meds. Debbie makes peace with Ben in the hospital. Justin runs into Ethan, the violinist he met on his birthday. When Brian continues to refuse Justin’s romantic gestures, Justin finds himself in Ethan’s arms.
Hal Sparks : Michael won’t accept help from anyone, and finally he calls Brian to come to him. When Brian shows up and the script has me say a few lines, and then it says, “Michael breaks down quickly”. On one line it just switches emotional gears. Well since everything’s shot out of order, we had already shot a scene with Ben where he was leaving the hospital. So I would go into the room and there was a fresh pillow there. I would touch the pillow and imagine that I had come to see a sick friend who had died, and when I had come up to get this things, they had already changed the sheets. That’s what I used for my emotional place. I would put my hand on the pillow and feel that, and I would walk out to do to scene while trying to hold it together.
