David's ex-wife divorces her second husband, which sends David to Portland to help their son cope. When he returns, he decides that he wants to move there permanently and asks Michael to come along. After some thought, Michael agrees, without knowing that Brian's job in New York fell through.
Sheila Hockin : We got a lot of very poignant mail in season one. A lot of the cast got individual letters from people who felt connected to them. I know Thea and Michelle got a lot of very heartfelt feedback from the community of gay women who watch the show and were glad to see themselves represented. Quite a quantity of correspondence came in from older gay men who had struggled through their lifetime feeling completely unrepresented on television and who were overwhelmed to see some of their stories played out in an open way. We also got a lot of correspondence from straight women who had adopted the show wholeheartedly.
