Teleplay by : Karen Walton Story by : Ron Cowen - Daniel Lipman - Karen Walton Directed by : Michael DeCarlo
Emmett becomes the sexual plaything for a gay couple who claim to have the perfect monogamous life. Brian receives the Outstanding Gay Hero award for saving Justin, but when a hypocritical gay author complains about the hero’s lifestyle, they try to take the award back. Michael is excited about the annual ComiCon, until Brian blows him off as well - but he eventually makes up for it.
Daniel Lipman : Gay as Blazes came about because I wanted to do this politically correct gay drama that all the very proper, politically correct people felt Queer as Folk should be. People were outraged by the little scene we did and I love when people are outraged by the show. As our production executive, Pancho Mansfield says, “The purpose of the show is to be outrageous. It’s not to offend or be outrageous solely for the sake of being outrageous, but to tell the truth. And the truth is outrageous, so we created this show within a show. I thought it was just hilarious, but people were out of their minds. They were thinking we were giving a gig ‘fuck you’ to them. That wasn't true at all. It was just a really fun show to do”.
